Zoysia Sod Stripped Into Front 9 Fairways
We completed the project August 1st and we plan on having 100% Zoysia on the Front 9 Fairways in 3 years. This Zoysia will tolerate the heat and dryer months much better and is fun to play golf on.
The owners of Sun Valley Golf Course hired Keeven Brothers Sod Co. to cut out 6 inches of Bluegrass fairway every 18 inches. Keeven Sod then brought in 3 acres of Zoysia to install in place of the cut out strips. The Sun Valley maintenance crew completed the installation of the new sod. This including the rolling of the sod, watering, fertilizing and mowing until it completely healed by September 15th.
The Front Nine Fairways now look great. We can already see some sideward growth as the strips grow together over time. We received 100% take of the new Zoysia, which is very good considering we installed sod in July. Our staff did a great job during these hot months in keeping the new sod moist and in place until it rooted down. Our goal now is to begin maintaining the Zoysia sod so we can promote its growth over the Bluegrass. This means different cutting height, fertilizer applications, weed control, and water applications.
Thanks to all our customers for being so patient through this project. We really appreciate everyone keeping carts on path on the front nine and not hitting off the new Zoysia. It made a huge improvement to the quality of the Zoysia grow-in. We have received many compliments from our customers and new visitors as well. We hope everyone returns in the Spring for some more fun golf at Sun Valley.
